Skippers (Hesperiidae)

Skippers all resemble one another and when you have got just a brief glimpse of it, you will always be able to tell whether a butterfly is a skipper or not Skippers are heavily built, but have tiny wings. They seem to be a mix between moths and butterflies. They have the heavy body that is similar to that of the owlets or woolly bears. Contrary to these moths, Skippers have their antennae with knob on them, just like in any other butterfly. They hold their wings tightly pressed along the body, something never seen in Owlets. Another obvious difference is that Skippers are active during day time. So far I had only two species in my garden: the Large Skipper and the Essex Skipper.
